Our Night Off

Posted: February 24, 2011 in Lincoln

….Was just about as eventful as one would come to expect from a bunch of dudes like us. Todd, Chris and I hit the pool and hot tub like, 33 seconds after we checked in. Then Todd ate some food and went to bed, Schutte went for a long walk down to a bar where there was a jazz group playing Watermelon Man all night long. Chris and I almost joined him, but we were chilled to the bone from the pool and opted for the shorter walk to Buffalo WW to see the end of the Kansas/Nebraska game. There were a lot of dissapointed fans in there, but that didn’t keep Chris and I down. We mowed down some very poorly cooked wings (what else would you expect?) and drank a little beer.

I never did see what happened to Greg Schutte that night. Some say he died of his wounds. Others, that he returned to his own country. But I like to think he may have at last found some small measure of peace that we all seek, and few of us ever find.

Hopefully he took pictures.
